My Long and Winding Road

So I completely missed God on this one. But the good news is God is completely capable of correcting me! And praise Him, He has! We have been on a winding road and I keep hearing that one phrase from some old song . . . "the long and winding road." Amazingly, our new-new house really is at the end of a long and winding road!!

I was convinced that we were buying the house that God intended for us. As the closing date approached, we became uneasy about the fact that the house was not complete. No amount of prodding had changed anything. The contract had been mutually accepted four weeks earlier but nothing had been done on the house. We became suspicious that God was blocking us for some reason.

Sunday afternoon we had an open house at our Rainbow City house and decided to drive to Birmingham. It was less than 24 hours before closing and the house looked the same as it did when we placed the offer. We were just sick. We talked, we prayed, and we tried to sleep. When we were not able to sleep, we talked and prayed some more. When we finally realized that we were going to have to walk away from the house, we were able to sleep.

Monday morning we canceled the movers, the power, the gas, the water, the phone, the internet, the television, the money wire, and the delivery of a rug and a mattress. Regions Bank, who owned the house, was not happy and made it very difficult for us to move on to another house. Jerre's blood pressure went through the roof.

We were able to settle on a price for this house on Thursday morning and left for New Orleans on Thursday afternoon. Seeing baby Jonathan was just what Jerre's blood pressure needed. We had a relaxed long Fourth of July weekend, closed the following Wednesday, and unloaded the truck on Saturday - one week late - different address!

I used to worry so that God would be trying to tell me something and I would miss it and mess up my whole life (or spend a great deal of money in the wrong place). How funny! It is not about me being able to hear, it is about Him being able to speak! One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 29:13 "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart." Yes! If I am seeking Him, I will find Him! He honors that! I hope I don't have to always go on a long and winding road but I know that if I do, He is on the road with me and He will teach me something along the way. Wouldn't I do that much for my own children? If they were honestly trying to do what I said, I would not let them fall through the cracks!

I love my new house!
