Suddenly You Are A Mother-in-Law

From the moment they put him in your arms, he captured your heart. You wondered how it was possible to instantly love him so much. But you did, and it was wonderfully satisfying. You were forever a willing captive to that love. You took that precious blue bundle home and showered him with love, kisses and snuggles. The two of you began a journey in which your lives would forever be intertwined.

By the time he was a toddler, he was your little man. You cared for him, prayed for him and supported him in every aspect of his life. You were there when he fell off his big wheel, kicked the soccer ball and struggled with his math facts. When he asked Jesus to come into his heart, you were there too and you got to watch him grow in his faith. You prayed him through middle school and prayed for the woman he would marry. In what seemed like a blink of the eye, your little man became a responsible, accomplished grown man.

Somewhere close to the same time that you were snuggling with your blue bundle, there was a pink bundle. She too, was precious to her mother, and was showered with love and kisses. She too, forever changed the life of her mother. Like your little man, this little lady grew and had life experiences that would shape her adult life. She most likely dreamed about the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life. Then, God’s providence brought her to your son, they fell in love, and they got married.

What starts out as one life forever changed by the birth of a child, multiplies as life continues. A mother’s love for her child is tremendous, fierce and God given. It impacts the rest of her life and his as she pours that love into the life of her son. The exponential impact from that one life happens when his life is joined with his wife and the somewhat parallel relationship between her and her mother.

When two people marry, the love, new relationships and changes for both families, come down like unexpected rain in a sun drenched, massive cornfield. It is surprising but refreshing. Even when it's uncomfortable, you adjust, because you don't want to miss it. Just like the rain, it is a God given blessing. Remember that blue bundle you received? It too was surprising but refreshing. At times it was uncomfortable, but you adjusted because there is no way you would ever choose to miss one minute.

So, here you are in that corn field, lifting your face to the sky, stretching your arms wide and receiving what God has given you. There is no way you want to miss it!

I thank God for the blessing of you Kassi!
I love you!
